This winter our second graders are following the Super 3 Research Plan to learn more about an animal of interest. This method helps younger students stay organized, use information in a thoughtful and effective way, and reflect on the quality and completeness of their own work.
The children are working in small groups as they learn to use recommended sources to insure that the information they find is trustworthy and age appropriate. They are becoming more familiar with nonfiction sources such as "Epic!" digital books, specialized databases that are designed for primary school students, including PebbleGo! and Abdo Zoom, as well as traditional library books and children's nature magazines. They will make a list of the sources they use to add credence to their reports and to credit the expert authors on whom they rely for their facts. After writing about their animals, the students will work together to create a game-based activity using Kahoot!
