Today in the library, the kindergarten children talked about some of the springtime changes they have noticed, including the fact that the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. We read a few books that explained other changes in the natural world, including birds migrating north, frogs coming out of hibernation, the birth of baby horses, and new growth on trees and plants. After the children selected books to take home, I was struck by the changes I observed in them. Many are developing strong interests in particular subjects, most love sharing their book selections with friends, many are learning to read, and they all seem to love their trips to the Jackson library! Here's a glimpse of some of the students from Mrs. Izzo & Mrs. Seth's class.

![]() Gone are the days of memorizing complicated formatting rules for different types of source citations and worrying if a typo in your bibliography would cause a point deduction on your research paper. Instead, our fifth graders are learning to use NoodleTools to create source lists for their independent research projects. So what is NoodleTools? "NoodleTools is a web-based student research service that helps you correctly cite sources in MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian citation styles." (from the NoodleTools website) In the middle school, Jericho students will use NoodleTools to manage their research projects. Different aspects of this comprehensive resource will allow them to track sources, take notes, create outlines, collaborate with classmates, as well as format and print their bibliography. As 5th graders, our students create the account that will follow them through middle school and high school. They have learned to use the templates to create citations for books, websites, and other online sources. Students are able to access their accounts from any device with a wi-fi connection as long as they log-in using their Jericho apps account. |
