The Indianapolis Public Library has provided links to 100 video read-alouds. You'll find old classics and newer titles too. Jackson students will recognize quite a few from our own library. You might enjoy one of my favorites Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld.

The Jackson Library provides access to many online resources that can be used from home. Click "Databases & Subscriptions" above for links to the subscription resources. These require usernames and passwords which will be e-mailed to parents this week Parents: Ask your child to "help you" use these databases. Our students will be proud to show what they know. eBooks Our library collection includes hundreds of fiction and nonfiction eBooks. Students should click "Log in" at the top of this page and use their 5-digit student ID number (lunch number) as both the username and the password. Anyone who doesn't know their ID# should e-mail me for help. ([email protected]) More e-books are available through our Databases & Subscription links to BookFlix, TrueFlix, CoreClicks, and Epic. Parents Page Many educational websites can be found on the other pages listed in the menu above. The "Parents Page" includes links to many wonderful educational websites as well as lists of award winning children's books, free coding activities, and more. Online Activities for March 2020 Each tile on the Symbaloo web will connect you to a different website. Our first graders are starting their first research project of the year. They will be learning how to use the Super 3 Research Process (Plan . . .Do . . .Review) to stay focused and productive.
Each day we will PLAN together by discussing what information we need and what is the best source to use. Then the students will DO by following that plan and taking notes. Finally, they will REVIEW their notes to see if they did their best work. They will look for information in at least 3 sources including two databases that are designed for young children: PebbleGo! and Abdo Zoom Animals. They will also use library books and search for their animal on the San Diego Zoo Kids website &/or the National Geographic Kids website.
What are your new year's resolutions for 2020?
I want to make the library website easier for students to use. Let me know what you think of this Symbaloo mix. Do you like this better than the other Databases & Subscriptions page? Try it and see. Mrs. Theissen & Mrs. Erikson's first graders were treated to a gourmet selection of nonfiction treats at a Book Bistro arranged by Mrs. Smith. Students were escorted to their tables by the bistro staff and then served three courses of book treats on different topics. The students were delighted by the offerings and enthusiastically explored a variety of books. They then rated the books and explained why they found them appealing. This Bistro is destined for success! Click the play button below to join the fun! |
